How to Disable Chrome’s Pull to Refresh Feature in Android [Quick Tips]

If you have been using Google Chrome as your default browser in Android, you will probably notice the Pull to Refresh feature in the browser that can be useful some of the time but annoying most of the time.

The Pull to Refresh feature was introduced in the recent build, and it allows you to pull down the page, assuming that you are already at the top of the web page to refresh the current URL. I am not sure how many of you refresh the current page regularly, personally, I find it annoying as I always refresh the page accidentally when I just wanted to scroll to the top of the page. Luckily, Google provides you with a way to disable it.

Here’s what you need to do.

Note: the following trick only works in Chrome for Android. Opera, while using the same webkit engine, doesn’t provide a way for its users to disable the pull to refresh feature.

1. Open your Chrome browser in Android. Tap on the URL bar, and enter the following URL:

chrome://flags/#disable-pull-to-refresh-effect

This will bring you to the Chrome internal Settings page.

2. Tap on the “Enable” link (Yes, it is kind of confusing to “enable” the “disabling” function). You should now see a “Disable” link.

3. Tap the “Relaunch Now” button at the bottom to relaunch the browser.

After the relaunch the Pull to Refresh feature will be disabled.
